Captain Levi Ackerman hadn't expected to see an off-white envelope sitting on his desk by the time he got to his office. It was aligned neatly with a stone on top to keep it from disappearing. In big, black letters it said Levi Ackerman. He hadn't a clue who had put it there, nor why, but he was going to figure out. Just as he sat down at his desk, the office door was forced open. Hanji was panicked, still in her pajamas. Her interruption distracted him from the task at hand. He glared at the woman who was suddenly beginning to flip out. She shouted gibberish and began to sob dryly, confusing the poor Captain.

     "Calm down, shitty glasses," he deadpanned, "What the hell are you fussing about this early in the morning?"

     Hanji took a moment to compose herself, but while she was doing it, she thrusted a scrap of paper in his direction. Levi caught it without a problem, unfolding it to see what she was talking about. He only skimmed it, but some words jumped out at him, words like "will probably die," "I hope it doesn't hurt," and "watch over the cadets closely." However, what jumped out at him the most was the signature, it belonged to ___. 

     "When did you receive this?" he demanded, "When did you get this??" 

     Hanji cried about finding it under her bedroom door. Levi spared a glance to the letter on his desk once again. He grabbed his own paper while standing up. Hanji watched as he approached the door quite quickly. Once they were open, he began to rush through the hallway, ignoring the stares of the waking cadets. Hanji followed a few paces behind, rubbing her face and trying to look normal once again. The Captain turned one corner, finally spotting the door he was looking for. He forced it open at once, glancing inside. ___'s bedroom was empty, some of her possessions remained but most of it was clear.

     "Levi?" Hanji sniffled, "What are you doing?"

     He bitterly kicked the doorframe before turning back toward the taller woman, "Where the hell is (last name)?" he growled, agitated, "She shouldn't be leaving for at least another hour! How dare that titan fodder brother of hers just-"

     He saw a flash of (h/c) in the corner of his eye, among the stone bricks of the corridor. Levi shoved Hanji a little bit and walked quickly toward the source of the color. However, once he caught up, he realized this was just a cadet, not the young woman he was searching for. Furiously he turned to the other squad leader.

     "You search for (last name) over there, I'm going to the gate."

     The brunette's eyes widened, "Levi, that's a thirty minute ride away," she said, "Even if you do make it there, she may have already gone ahead toward their camp."

      "I'm aware, shitty-glasses."

     The short Captain had to get to the stables as quickly as possible. He needed a horse, his horse, any horse - it didn't matter. He needed quick transportation. As he rushed toward the outside building, he looked down at the paper in his hand, crumbled and nearly destroyed. He hadn't even read it yet. Hanji's letter from ___ had sent him reeling into anger at the wording. How could that dimwitted brat have the mentality of death when leaving the walls? She would surely die like that! 

     Cadet after Cadet passed him, some familiar, some not. One particular face stood out among the rest - Eren Jaeger. Levi grabbed hold of the Titan boy by the back of his shirt, dragging him behind. Eren's friends looked shocked at what had just happened, but the boy seemed quite fine with it. 

     "Sir?"

     Levi sneered, "We're going to the gate," he said, "You will follow no more than two paces behind me at all times, do you understand?"

     "Yes, sir!"

     Now there were two men hurrying toward the stables, one following closely behind the other. To anyone watching, it was definitely urgent. Other members of Levi's squad watched in enjoyment as Eren was half-dragged by Levi, but others were curious as to what was going on. Petra even questioned where they were going, but it was ignored by the Captain. 

     By the time Levi and Eren got to the gate, it was almost departure time for the Outside soldiers. There were only minutes to spare, the gate had already begun being lifted. If they were a minute later, most of the carriages and horses would've been gone already. The Captain's eyes searched among the group looking for the familiar (h/c)-haired girl. He spotted her near the front, by Locke. He forced his horse to run up the street toward them, desperate to catch up at this point. Eren followed behind like a loyal puppy. Levi's horse skid to a stop right beside Locke's. 

     The mousy haired man looked toward the dark-haired one, lazily glaring at him. ___ looked up from her steed as well, confused as to why they hadn't begun moving yet. Locke mentioned going on ahead, and how she could catch up in a minute or two. The horses and carriages departed slowly, leaving her, Levi, and Eren behind.

     "Tch, you're dumber than I thought, brat," Levi finally said, "Going into battle with the mentality of death isn't something a soldier does. You will die with those thoughts, dumbass. Do you want to die?"

      ___ noticed he was gripping her letter in his hands, around the reins like his life depended on it. She spared Eren a look before looking right at Levi with her large, (e/c) eyes. There was no fear there, nothing but excitement, and he recognized that now. 

     "My note to Hanji was to prepare her for my leaving," she said, "I am in no way expecting to die, sir. Just in case it happens, I want to warn her. I didn't give the same bull words for you, though. I suggest you read that carefully before you examine my thoughts again, sir."

     She whipped her reins, allowing the horse to gallop forward a few feet. However, she stopped before getting too far. Her (e/c) eyes found his again, a dark passion brewing in them.

     "And sir," she chuckled, "I'll see you in three months."

     ___ disappeared out the gate, her horse running to catch up with the caravan that had just left. Levi stared after, watching as the small squad disappeared on the horizon. The gate slowly lowered before cutting the sight of Wall Maria completely off. He sat still before looking down at the squashed letter in his hand. He strengthened his grip on the reins of his horse, turning it around. Eren did the same, carefully staying close by. 

     "Captain Levi?"

     The dark haired man spared Eren a look, "Don't be like her, Eren," he said, "As badly as you want to go outside the walls, you're not trained to. Not like Locke is. Let's go."

     Levi tucked the letter away in the breast of his jacket before forcing his horse to gallop back toward HQ. Eren watched him for a second before following closely behind. He had never seen Levi like this before, and probably would never again.
